The Custom Avenir Project celebrating the Philadelphia Museum of Art

The Avenir Project is finally finished. It is based on the Philadelphia Museum of Art staff, design and logos. The concept purpose was to create something tangible for multiple reasons:

  1. a staff appreciation gift for 2020 (the ✍ Signature design)
  2. able to sold to the public (the Gold  🥇 Design) and
  3. highlights the IIT department (the Silver 🥈Augmented Reality)

This project has taken 6+ months to complete and I designed multiple iterations to create these 3 separate decks of ultra premium playing cards.

Design Details
The Signature design was originally supposed to have ALL of the employees, security, cleaning crew, and everyone in between for the last 3-5 years (NOTE: This sole idea is why I pursued the final Custom Hoodie based Avenir Project). Of course I couldn't get that full list without STILL jumping through hoops so I made due.

The purpose of the design is to highlight the hundreds of people who support and manage the Museum, mostly from the shadows. The names are much more subtle in person. The gold and silver versions are lined in gold and silver color on the edges (see the picture).

The Silver Augmented Reality design didn’t pan out after I spent a month of coding the backend.

However I used those design assets in another project (Touch-Screen Kiosk to Meet the IT Team) which will be finished and was released a few weeks later. The Signature and Gold designs are my favorite. Also if you didn’t know, the word Avenir refers to the font of the same name that is the branded font of the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

And yes, all of the text (numbers included) of the front and back of the cards are written in the Avenir font. The final piece of the Avenir Project (Avenir Project Complete) will be was revealed in April 2020, since it is part of a set which will focus on departments and buildings of the museum as well.
