Inertia – The Loudness Found in the Unnatural Quiet of COVID

October 18, 2021

“Until we have begun to go without them, we fail to realize how unnecessary many things are. We’ve been using them not because we needed them but because we had them.” Seneca In the silence of COVID (and the events of Year Zero) did I have time to sit and think about where I wanted to be and where I was going. Inertia being everything that stopped because of COVID 19 and how new habits have to changed. Inertia like transportation and commenting to work by owning a car, etc. And being done with something refers to how those new habits change things. For example, getting the iPhone 12 due to Year Zero but…

Lesson Learned – Reflecting on February 2019

April 28, 2021

I found an old note on my Dropbox Paper account which I highlighted some key things in my life during the entire month of February 2019. I recorded these notes on a daily basis during that month so it is interesting to see how a fresh and accurate recollection of my mindset stacks up after 2 years (obligatory: wow that went fast). So without further ado, here are the original notes with my current status listed below each point. May these takeaway lessons serve you in some capacity on your path. (more…)

How 2020 became Year Zero

January 11, 2021

There is a lot that 2020 brought on a global scale but I mean on a personal level, I was forced to sit my ass down and rethink everything. I spent A LOT of time in the hospital in 2020 to a MAJOR surgery and recovery process along with lifelong changes. This is the story of How 2020 became Year Zero (edited for brevity, somewhat 🤷‍♂️)… (more…)

The Wisdom of Keeping Your Eye on the Ball by Paris D Hunter

The Wisdom of Keeping Your Eye on the Ball

July 17, 2019

“Keep your eye on the ball.” This common phrase was repeated often throughout my life. Regardless of what form the ball takes (soccer ball, baseball, basketball, etc), it was important to keep my eye on the ball. I have been thinking about this for the past couple of days as part of self reflection. The real wisdom hidden in the message. Wisdom that I clearly forgot over the last few years. This wisdom was lost on my younger self.  (more…)

The Power of Bullshit

January 1, 2019

I have been doing a bit of self reflection over the last few month’s and I came to the stunning realization of the Power of Bullshit. The bigger realization is that I have been using the Power of Bullshit without fully realizing it. Allow me to explain what the Power of Bullshit means to me. (more…)

August 2018 – Improving Sleep and Removing Processed Food

September 3, 2018

https://twitter.com/vincentcecelia/status/1025873423845744641 #AUGUST8 EXPERIMENT In the month of August, I decided to run a month long experiment with 2 conditions: Remove processed foods from my diet for the duration of the of the month. Work to increase my sleep by going to bed earlier. A lot of research states that the best way to improve your health is to increase the number of hours you sleep and cut out all of the processed junk (or severely reduce it). (more…)

What Dreams Mean: Carlton’s, A Dry Cleaners Restaurant

July 30, 2018

“What dreams mean?” is a common search term. I interpret my dreams to provide clarity for me and you. Our dreams are different but our thoughts are common. We are humans after all. In the following pages, I document a recent dream as best I can recall and deconstruct it. The Dream – Carlton’s So I had a dream last night that I ran a place called Carlton’s. This is a thread story of course for Thursday Thoughts and if you know me, my dreams are always ridiculous but tells of my subconscious mind. A yellow, softly lit Carlton’s sign rests over the door…. Lessons Learned: The Wisdom of Business

June 18, 2018

A lot of times in my life, I get advice that I do not understand the full ramifications of what’s being communicated to me at that time. Only in hindsight do I see the wisdom of the advice, generally after I get the experience first-hand (the hard way). This is the story of the Wisdom of Business. (more…)

Candy and Soda – 6 Years Free

June 4, 2018

It has been six years since I have freed myself from the power of Candy and Soda. The endless allure of candy and soda that infects our every waking minute is so ubiquitous that it is considered weird if you turn down office candy or mixed drinks with soda in it.  So 6 years ago in June 2012, I decided that I was finished with candy and soda. (more…)

Two Year Fitness Update (2016-2018)

June 3, 2018

Recently I have crossed the 2-year mark in my fitness update transformation (from May 2016 to May 2018). The purpose of this slow fitness journey is not only to be in better shape but to make better decisions about dieting, my reactions to food and my health overall. My philosophy is to make gradual changes to enforce discipline and to create lasting, life changing habits. (more…)

Story Telling & Technology: A Dove Ad Taken Out of Context

Annual Personal Accountability Letter

September 24, 2017

There are roughly 2,290,000 results for the words “annual performance review” on Google at the time of this writing. Personally, I never cared for annual performance reviews in most jobs that I had. Previous managers would say it is to make sure the company goals and my goals aligned, but I found that to be true in only certain circumstances. (more…)

Desktop Built in 2017: BluReign

February 23, 2017

Well it happened a few months ago really. My sister’s laptop finally bit the dust. The screen was cracked and fuzzy, the casing falling to pieces and weird noises emitting from the machine constantly. Of course this is to say nothing of the now dismal battery life of the machine after years of use (and probably abuse). (more…)

Digit VS Qapital: Automatically Saving for Your Future

September 23, 2016

Saving in America. Some of us do it diligently and some of us…think about doing it. To be honest, I tend to fall into the later camp sometimes. According to ycharts.com and the Bureau of Economic Analysis in a report published February 2016, the United States personal savings rate was 5.40% and in 2015, the rate was the same. Long Term Average for Savings in the United States is 8.33% according to the same report. The process of savings is that it generally comes across static and cold, at least to me. When looking up rules of savings, the typical advice says “save 10%” or “save x amount of dollars per pay period” with…
